Friends In Need Health Center provides primary medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured neighbors across eleven counties in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Our mission is to improve health, restore dignity, and remove barriers to care.

• OUR STORY
Healthcare Built On Compassion
In 1993, a group of community leaders, physicians, and volunteers from First Broad Street United Methodist Church looked at how many of their neighbors were using the emergency room for basic care — and decided to build something better. The clinic opened its doors in 1995.
Three decades later, Friends In Need provides primary medical and dental care to patients across eight counties in Northeast Tennessee and three in Southwest Virginia. Thousands of people each year get their blood pressure under control here, get a tooth fixed here, and get a prescription filled they could not otherwise afford.
Same mission we started with: care for our neighbors, whoever they are and whatever they can pay.

How It Works

Start Your Application
Pick up a paper application at our office Monday through Thursday, 8 AM to 5 PM, or start one online.

Bring What You Have
A valid photo ID, proof of your address, and proof of household income if you have it. We will also ask how many people live in your household. Missing something? Come anyway — our staff will help you work it out.

Meet With Our Staff
We review your application with you and confirm your eligibility. Bring your questions.

Get Your Appointment
Once you are approved, we schedule your first visit. No one is turned away from Friends In Need for inability to pay. We will remind you by call or text before every appointment.
